It Means to Be Alive by Brian Christian
Alan Turing, one of the great minds in computer science, is most widely
remembered for his "Turing Test" which one must try to decide if they
are talking to a computer program or an actual human being. Nowadays
the Turing test has become an annual event where teams of computer
programmers attempt to create the most human of chat bots to compete
against a team of people trying to be the most human of humans. Judges
scoring the event will award prizes to the best in each camp. In 2009
Brian Christian set out to win the Most Human Human prize and this is
his story. Along the way he reveals insights into what makes us who we
really are. See the author's web site here.
