Cryptonomicon by Neil Stephenson

Title:  Cryptonomicon

Author: Neil Stephenson

Cryptonomicon is one of my all time favorite novels. It is a complex tale about codes and code breakers. The novel follows the stories of various characters, many of whom never meet, but whose lives are inextricably bound together by the events of WWII.

The whole thing is a twisty turny thrill ride. Neal Stephenson loves to ratchet up the tension in each storyline and then leave you hanging while the next chapter switches to a character that is not in mortal peril. The disparate story lines are tied together through history and science and math and cryptography. This novel is so smart and so sharp, full of moments that make you laugh out loud, make your heart race, and make you think about history, about humanity.
