One Thousand White Women by James Fergus

Title:  One Thousand White Women

Author: James Fergus

Review:

In this imaginative but well-researched novel is the tale of American women agreeing to marry Indian warriors.  The book is based on a real 1875 treaty between the Cheyenne Indian tribe and the U.S. Government. Whether or not the trading of horses for women was part of this treaty is not clear.  Regardless, the fictional protagonist, May Dodd writes well the stories of one group of ladies as they lived and learned amongst the Cheyenne.  If one enjoys Western American history this will be an enjoyable book.
