Pickleball players often improve quickly at first but then hit a wall, unable to reach the next level. Why does this happen? This limiting effect is, in fact, quite common among pickleball players. In fact, people from any sport or recreational activity can reach a performance plateau that seems difficult to overcome. The premise of this book is that the way our brains are wired to learn, adapt, and function in order to help us survive in what was historically a dangerous, threatening world inadvertently creates barriers to improving pickleball or any other type of performance. Perhaps not surprisingly, brains designed for survival in a hostile and dangerous environment are not necessarily optimal for functioning on a pickleball court- nor for functioning in a modern, technological society, for that matter. Our cognitive design "peculiarities" unconsciously lead us to:
· Resist practicing, or practice in ineffective/inefficient ways.
· Avoid or resist feedback that could help us improve performance.
· Fail to experiment with new shots or strategies.
· Resist giving up old and comfortable but ineffective shots and strategies.
· Be unable to sustain our focus, concentration, willpower and awareness throughout the game.
· Fail to identify and overcome negative emotions and limiting beliefs about our abilities.
This book addresses each of these issues, providing targeted techniques and strategies for overcoming them. The book's insights can help you move past the mental and emotional barriers holding you back, unlocking your potential to play smarter, stay focused and win more games. Don't settle for your current level of performance- take charge of your improvement and finally break through to the next level!
